Evangelical Protestants in 2020

This dataset relates to a research project into the beliefs and practices of contemporary Dutch evangelicals. It is a fellow-up project of an earlier project of Paul Vermeer and Peer Scheepers who studied the religious, moral and political beliefs and practices of evangelicals visiting six megachurches in the Netherlands; data and documentation of this earlier project can be found here https://doi.org/10.17026/dans-xdh-6gb3. Although this specific focus on evangelical megachurches revealed various interesting findings, it was also a serious limitation. To overcome this limitation, this second project focuses on the evangelical movement at large. More specifically, the aim of the project is to document the current beliefs and practices of Dutch evangelicals in general and not only those visiting large, thriving congregations. In addition, and this is also an extension of the earlier project of Vermeer and Scheepers, the project not only focuses on beliefs and practices, but also aims to document the different ways in which contemporary evangelicals relate to their religious communities and congregations. The project is a joint venture of Paul Vermeer of Radboud University Nijmegen and Hans Riphagen of Free University Amsterdam who is also rector of the Dutch Baptist Seminary. This collection contains the datafile, the original Dutch questionnaire and codebook as well as English translations of the questionnaire and codebook. The privacy statements at the beginning of the original Dutch questionnaire have not been translated.
