This repository contains data and analysis files associated with the paper "Rhythm-affected plural variation in written Dutch".
This paper analysed whether the prosodic preference for alternating stressed and unstressed syllables affected whether Dutch language users used the -s or the -en plural in two experiments and one corpus study. The results from the experiments suggested that our experimental design stimulated language users to insert prosodic breaks between stressed syllables, which prevented an effect on plural choice. We did find an effect of prosody on plural choice in the corpus study, suggesting that rhythmic alternation affects production of morphological alternatives.
